The Entrepreneur's Curse – Trajan King

The Entrepreneur’s Curse

One of the most common traits of entrepreneurs is that we have ideas.  We have lots of ideas.  More ideas than we know what to do with, which is a blessing and a curse.  We see the world in a different way.  We see problems and opportunities all around us and it’s in our nature to think of solutions and products to those problems.  It’s how we’re built.

We see problems that need solutions. They are everywhere. We can’t help ourselves. The ideas just flow out of our minds without much effort.

The downside is that it’s easy to get distracted and unfocused as these ideas rush into our heads.  Giving into the temptation to follow all your ideas can cause a lot of problems.

I call this the Entrepreneur’s Curse. It can be an amazing driver or innovation or as I’ve seen many times, can cause problems for a startup founder and his team as he or she leads the team in a new direction every day.

In this video we discuss 3 ways to overcome The Entrepreneur’s Curse, plus one common misconception about work.

0:00 – The entrepreneur’s curse.

0:30 – Following all your ideas impedes focus.

0:45 – Focus on one thing at a time and follow through. The fallacy of multi-tasking.

1:10 – Mono-tasking is much more effective.

2:20 – Not focusing can hurt you.

2:50 – Learn to say “no” until you complete your one project.
